Biography
DARÍO MIRANDA is a Marine Biologist, graduated from Universidad de Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, in 1982. He obtained an MSc in Environmental Engineering from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in 1996. He also did post-graduate studies on Coastal and Marine Pollution Prevention and Risk Management in Community Development, both in Gothenburg, Sweden. Darío is a former Ecopetrol's Environmental Professional at Coveñas Offshore Petroleum Terminal and Caño Limón-Coveñas Oil Pipeline. He worked as a senior researcher at Ecopetrol’s Colombian Petroleum Institute, conducting several environmental research projects for the oil industry. He also served as a senior HSE professional for Ecopetrol’s HSE Corporate Directorate. He retired from Ecopetrol in December 2009 after serving for more than 22 years. Presently, Darío is an environmental and contingency planning consultant.
He co-authors ARPEL Dispersant Guidelines and Ecopetrol’s Contingency Planning Corporate Guidelines. During his professional career, Darío participated as an On-scene Commander in more than 350 oil spills. Environmental impact assessment, offshore and onshore oil spill response, and contingency planning are areas of interest and strength.
He currently provides consulting services to national and multinational companies in several countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Additionally, he develops training activities as an Instructor of the OPRC courses with international certification at levels 0, 1, 2, and 3. He also supports ARPEL dictating the training courses in the ARPEL Manual and the RETOS tool.
