Biography
Christopher Barker holds a PhD in Coastal Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley, where he focused on wave dynamics and riverine and estuarine circulation. He is currently working as part of the Scientific Support Team at NOAA’s Emergency Response Division. At NOAA, he provides modeling and analysis for oil and chemical spills in the US, and occasionally internationally. Chris has worked on every significant oil spill in the United States since he began at NOAA almost 25 years ago. When not responding to spills, he works on planning, drills, teaching, and developing NOAA’s response software. He is currently leading the development of the GNOME and ADIOS Oil Database software.
