Biography
Jesse Thrift is a master's student at the University of Maryland in the Department of Environmental Science and Technology and a Coast Guard naval engineering officer. He is studying environmental contaminants as a result of shipyard hull cleaning and preservation.
He spent five years in the Great Lakes as a deck watch officer and as a port engineer managing the maintenance of Coast Guard ships. Previously he was an enlisted member of the engineering departments of cutters in Alaska and Maine.
Before enlisting he graduated from the University of Maryland with a BA in English Literature and a minor in terrorism studies; and worked as an emergency management specialist at the University of Maryland and a research assistant at the Naval Research Lab's Adversarial Modeling and Exploitation Office
