CDR Michael Persun has a B.S. in Marine and Environmental Science from the United States Coast Guard Academy and an M.S. in Environmental & Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. He holds ICS certifications as a Type 3 Incident Commander, Operations Section Chief, and Situation Unit Leader. Over the past 10 years, he has served as a Federal On Scene Coordinator Representative in both St. Petersburg, FL and New York City, managing hundreds of pollution incidents, emergency responses, and multiple hurricane responses. His research interests focus on optimization of Geographic Response Strategy development and oil spill analytical methods.
