Biography
Michael Drieu is Gulf of Mexico Emergency Response and Preparedness Manager for Occidental Petroleum for technical and management expertise concerning subsea source control key resources, procedures, preparedness, planning and response technical resource for clarification to regulations, expectations, incident response and management plans and processes. The job also includes in a thorough understanding of the industry Source Control equipment such as general operability and capability. Mike was previously Manager, Response Preparedness - Well CONTAINED for Wild Well Control, Inc., a Houston, Texas based company specializing in worldwide firefighting, well control and related engineering, marine engineering, and training services. Expanded position to include subsea well control procedures and exercises and assisting managing subsea containment equipment for 16 oil and gas operators. Mike retired from US Coast Guard with 21 years’ service, serving a Commanding Officer of two units including Pacific Strike Team, and RRT Co Chairs for Regions 6, 7 and 8 while serving Chief, Response Branch for Eighth Coast Guard District. Michael received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from U.S. Coast Guard Academy in 1984. Since April 2010, Mike has played an active role working at Source Control Command Post during the DW Horizon Oil Spill supporting Intervention, Containment and SIMOPS activities, serves as Board Member for Marine Preservation Association, and National Academy Of Sciences Gulf Offshore Energy Safety, and Clean Gulf Associates Technical Operations Committee.
