Kurt Hansen retired in 2018 after 37 years performing R&D with the US Navy and Coast Guard, with the last 20 addressing oil spill response. His projects included in-situ burning, response in fast currents, detection and recover of submerged oil, and oil-in-ice. He has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware and an MS in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island. He has his own consulting firm.
